Wall-hung toilets free up the floor, but the real space gain is on the walls, the casing, and the accessories installed around. We start with ten concrete situations to transform this reduced volume into a visually appealing room, without sacrificing functionality.
1. Raw wood casing to create an integrated shelf
The casing that conceals the support frame is often finished in painted drywall. We take it a step further by dressing it with raw wood slats or solid oak, which serve as both wall covering and storage shelf.
The upper shelf holds a candle, a small vase, or a diffuser. This way, we utilize a dead space without drilling into the load-bearing wall. The wood adds a warm texture that breaks the clinical look of sanitary white, in line with the wabi-sabi atmospheres prevalent in recent projects.
For maintenance, a clear matte varnish is enough to protect the wood from moisture. Feedback on durability varies depending on the room’s ventilation, but in well-ventilated toilets, the result remains stable for several years.
2. Panoramic wallpaper on the back wall
In such a narrow space, we can explore decor ideas for wall-hung toilets that play with visual depth. Panoramic wallpaper (jungle pattern, landscape, abstract mural) placed on the wall facing the door creates a perspective effect that enlarges the room.
We choose a non-woven wallpaper that is resistant to humidity. The other three walls remain solid, in a neutral tone that allows the panoramic wallpaper to breathe. This contrast between a strong wall and sober walls structures the space without overloading it.
3. Two-tone wall tiles installed as wainscoting
Installing tiles on the lower half of the wall and painting the upper half protects the splash zone while creating a horizontal line that visually widens the room.

The niches utilize the thickness of the casing without encroaching on the floor space. We illuminate them with a recessed spotlight or a small LED strip for a display effect. A tile of the same color as the wall at the back of the niche unifies the look.
7. Floor with geometric patterned cement tiles
When the walls remain sober, we shift the decorative emphasis to the floor. Retro or geometric patterned cement tiles add character without visually reducing the space.
The floor freed by the wall-hung bowl exposes more surface to view, making the pattern more legible than with a floor-mounted toilet. We match the tile colors to a single accessory (toilet roll holder, hook) to maintain coherence. Blue-gray or black and white tones work in most configurations.
8. Designer toilet roll holder in brass or matte black
Accessories are often overlooked, yet a well-chosen toilet roll holder can change the perception of the room. A brushed brass or matte black model positioned next to the casing provides a discreet but polished focal point.

Painting the back wall in midnight blue, forest green, or anthracite creates a depth effect and envelops the room. The other three walls remain light to avoid a boxy effect.
This technique works particularly well with a white wall-hung toilet, which stands out by contrast against the dark background. A single dark wall enlarges the perspective instead of shrinking it, provided that sufficient lighting is maintained (adjustable spotlight or wall lamp).
